Dog Training | Dog Training – Reward Training Is A Fun And Highly Effective Way
Training your dog using rewards based training methods is the most efficient and effective way to successful train your dog. It can speed up the learning process and also be fun for both dog and owner.
The results from trainers using rewards or treats to train their pets with has shown that dogs, as well as most other animals that have been trained this way, are highly motivated when using these methods.
You need to first find the reward or treat that your pet likes the most. You may already know this from feeding him treats that you have given him before. You may have to buy a variety of different treats in order to test him and see which one he responds to the best. You could also ask around on some online forums and see what treats other people are using to train their dogs with. Whichever way you choose, once you have the best treat it is time to start the training.
It is probably best to start the training a little while before their regular feeding time. He will be much more motivated if he is not working on a full stomach.
Start with a simple come or sit command. Give your dog a few pieces of food to let them know that you have it then back up a couple of steps and say “come”.
When he does “come” give him a treat and lots of praise. Keep repeating this for a short time until he seems to grasp the concept and then end the session for now. You want to keep all training sessions short and not get the dog bored or gorge him with treats all at one time.
The next session you may want to begin with the come command, as a refresher, and then start another command, such as sit or stay.
Make sure all training sessions are done in a safe environment, preferably where there are no other distractions and the dog can’t run freely.
