Dog Training | Top 10 Best Dog Training Tips

10. Education- Invest in a good book about canine behavior and training. Or depending on your issue hire a professional dog trainer. The initial investment could be the difference between an obedient, happy pet. Or a dog that can make your life impossible.

9. A serious commitment to training- At least 4 weeks or more.

8. No bullying- Never hit or yell at your dog. This will destroy the trust your dog has in you and weaken your relationship.

7. Exercise- An hour a day, (depending on the dog), is best but anything is better than none.

6. Will work for dog food- In the wild a dog’s natural instinct is to hunt for his food. This action involves thought and creates mental stimulation. If he doesn’t have any work to do he lacks purpose and will get very bored and could even begin to deteriorate mentally. However, when a dog is required to sit or perform other commands for food it not only gives him much needed mental stimulation but also reinforces your role as pack leader.

5. Basic obedience training- An absolute must in establishing yourself as the pack leader. Basic training will be the common language through which you communicate with your dog. Train a little everyday. Find just five minutes several time a day to practice training with your dog. You’ll be surprised by how much a few minutes a day can do.

4. Routine-A regular schedule will help establish the right life-long habits.

3. Consistency- dogs have an all or nothing mentality. If they can get away with misbehaving some of the time it’s the same as reinforcing bad behavior.Establish yourself as the Alpha or pack leader. This is done by demonstrating to your dog that you’re the boss! You can begin this process by doing a few simple things: you eat first. You walk through doorways first. And you are always in front of your dog on walks

2. Never give a command that can’t be reinforced. Don’t tell your dog to come unless you know he will or you have a leash on him and can pull him to you. Otherwise you’ll be letting him know when you say something he doesn’t have to do it.

1. Respect – If your dog does not respect you he will not listen to you. You can teach your dog to tap dance on cue but if your dog does not see you as the pack leader he won’t even sit for you, (unless you bribe him with food).

Dog Training | Dog Training – Reward Training Is A Fun And Highly Effective Way

Training your dog using rewards based training methods is the most efficient and effective way to successful train your dog. It can speed up the learning process and also be fun for both dog and owner.

The results from trainers using rewards or treats to train their pets with has shown that dogs, as well as most other animals that have been trained this way, are highly motivated when using these methods.

You need to first find the reward or treat that your pet likes the most. You may already know this from feeding him treats that you have given him before. You may have to buy a variety of different treats in order to test him and see which one he responds to the best. You could also ask around on some online forums and see what treats other people are using to train their dogs with. Whichever way you choose, once you have the best treat it is time to start the training.

It is probably best to start the training a little while before their regular feeding time. He will be much more motivated if he is not working on a full stomach.

Start with a simple come or sit command. Give your dog a few pieces of food to let them know that you have it then back up a couple of steps and say “come”.

When he does “come” give him a treat and lots of praise. Keep repeating this for a short time until he seems to grasp the concept and then end the session for now. You want to keep all training sessions short and not get the dog bored or gorge him with treats all at one time.

The next session you may want to begin with the come command, as a refresher, and then start another command, such as sit or stay.

Make sure all training sessions are done in a safe environment, preferably where there are no other distractions and the dog can’t run freely.

Dog Training | Dog Training Methods

When you are training your dog there is four important things to keep in mind. They are the command, marker, reward and release. Let us say you are doing a simple exercise like sitting, the first thing which is your command you would say to the dog ’sit’. You would do that in a nice firm voice. A good thing to do when you are doing this is to raise the food or treat above their head, which actually forces them back so that they are sitting.

Once your dog is sitting down, you follow with the marker. You give them some sort of signal that they have done the right thing. Typically you would just say ‘yes’. You do this in a nice voice so that the dog understands that it is a positive reaction from you for what they have done.

The next thing that follows in the training sequence is the reward. You will gently put the treat into the mouth. Now it is important to make sure that the dog does not move from the sitting position, it should not jump up at you to grab the treat that you are offering.

Then last but definitely not least is the release. The dog needs to know when he can finish the action. This is important too otherwise this decision is left up to the dog and it means your dog obedience training exercise will not be completed. Your dog will not remember it very well and may also not be as well behaved as you expect it to be.

So make sure that once you finish the exercise with your dog, you release the dog. That could be just as simple as rubbing his back and saying ‘Yes, well done’. Whenever you are training your dog, do not forget to complete all the four steps above for each of the exercises you put your dog through.

Dog Training | Best Tips On Dog Training – House Breaking In 4 Easy Steps – Stop

Dog training in house breaking may seem like a daunting task but if one knows the basic principles of effective dog toilet training it becomes easy and straightforward. Just make sure you follow the steps I outlined below and add a bit of patience and consistency and you’ll have your dog house trained in a few weeks. There is one more thing I want to mention before we start. Don’t ever punish your dog! Screaming and hitting your pet will only make him more confused and stressed and can result in further problems with house breaking. Always use positive reinforcement techniques as they work much faster and will make your dog an easy-going and friendly pet.

Dog Training – House Breaking Tip 1 – Create A ‘Den’

Dogs are instinctively looking for a place that could play the role of a den. Not only it provides them with a calm and peaceful environment where they can relax and hide from all the fuss around but forces them to keep it tidy. Dogs are naturally clean animals and they won’t soil their sleeping area unless forced to. Make sure to spend some time with your dog in his new home in order to make him feel comfortable and secure while staying in it.

Dog Training – House Breaking Tip 2 – Schedule The Meals

You need to know that young puppies are not able to control their bladder and colon until they are 12 weeks old and will eliminate almost without warning. You have to monitor their behavior by looking for two main signs of coming poop: circling and sniffing around. As soon as it happens say firmly ‘outside’ and take your dog to the garden where he can finish his business. It is extremely important to regularly schedule meals and always let the dog out within the first 20 minutes after last meal. Older dogs can resist from eliminating for a few hours and this method will let them know that they will have a chance to eliminate outside sooner or later.

Dog Training – House Breaking Tip 3 – Prepare The Toilet Area

You will have to designate a place in your yard where you dog is supposed to eliminate. Make sure to take him there every time he feels the urge and praise for using it. You need to keep the toilet area clean by getting rid of the stools once in a while. Dogs avoid eliminating in a dirty and stinky places and will look for alternatives if forced to (your house is one of them).

Dog Training – House Breaking Tip 4 – Use A Leash

Use a leash to keep your dog within a designated toilet area or his den. Simply attach it to a tree or a heavy piece of furniture in order to prevent your dog from unexpected trips that might end up with a mess on your carpet. This technique works great as it reinforces the good habits of eliminating outside in the spot that was specifically chosen for it.
